LungScreenCT
Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death worldwide. death from cancer. Efforts are being made to detect cancer caused lesions as early as possible, as they are mostly curable when they are treated at an early stage.
To date in France, there is no organized screening for lung cancer. However, individual follow-up is recommended for patients at risk (patients who smoke at least 20 packs/year). Thoracic scans allow the identification of suspicious pulmonary nodules, and the indication of complementary exams such as PET scans, biopsies or surgery. The increase in the number of thoracic scans leads to the increasingly frequent discovery of pulmonary nodules, the vast majority of which are benign. he desire not to fail to identify a possible lung cancer may lead to an increase in the number of costly and stressful additional medical exams for the patient.
The main difficulty for radiologists lies in assessing the risk of malignancy of nodules, due to the great variability in their appearance (size, texture, evolution...). Also, international recommendations such as those issued in July 2017 by the Fleischner Society attempt to standardize the monitoring of patients with pulmonary nodules.
The LungScreenCT project (October 2019 – March 2020), in the continuitu of the continuity of the RADVISE-X project (January 2018 – October 2019), aims to provide radiologists with a reliable thoracic scan interpretation tool, based on artificial intelligence algorithms, enabling them to save precious time in their diagnosis, and even to refine their reading grid in order to reduce the number of cases of over-diagnosis and thus the additional costs and stress generated. LungScreenCT is an innovation partnership project and is the winner of AstraZeneca's EXPLORE call for proposals, providing the financial support necessary for the development of the project.
The LungScreenCT project is the follow-up of the Radvise-X project.
