Calls for Proposals
The PEPS and SUNSET Calls for Proposals are now closed
The MSI offers a number of calls for proposals for academic members of the Université Côte d’Azur to initiate or develop collaborations related to modeling and simulation.
- The First Round of Funding for Exploratory Projects (PEPS) is an ongoing call whose goal is to support collaborations occurring between UCA external partners and requiring modeling or simulation skills.
- Support for the Organization of Working Sessions (SUNSET) is an ongoing call which aims to fund working sessions such as conferences related to modeling or simulation within UCA, or weeklong working sessions with commercial partners of the UCA.
The MSI belongs to the Modeling, Simulation, Optimization (MSO) network of the Agency for Interaction in Mathematics with Business and Society (AMIES). When the above two calls for proposals are oriented toward mathematics, they connect on the national and European levels with:
- The PEPS of AMIES « Agency for Interaction in Mathematics with Business and Society »
- The AMIES Study Week of Industrial Mathematics (SEME) « Semaine d’Etude Math-Entreprises », and the European Study Group with Industry (ESGI) workshop « European Study Group with Industry »

First Round of Funding for Exploratory Projects (PEPS in French)The PEPS Call for Proposals is now closed
The focus of the PEPS program of the Center of Modeling, Simulation and Interactions (MSI) is to initiate and support collaborations occurring between the UCA and academic as well as non-academic partners and requiring skills in modeling, simulations and optimization.
This program aims to fund exploratory projects either with an industrial partner or those of a strong transdisciplinary nature, that cannot be financed by other calls for projects. For example, more successful technology development and transfer projects are better-suited for the Innovation call for projects. As far as applications are concerned, calls for projects open at the beginning of a month and close at its end, allowing for ongoing submissions.

Funding level
The main goal of the PEPS program is to initiate collaborations by supporting operational costs (for example, business trips, small equipment, paid master's degrees internships) with a budget of around 10—15 k-€. Nevertheless, this funding can increase to 50 k-€ when the objective is to provide more support, notably in staffing (post-doc, engineer or post-master internship).
Application processing
Applications will be processed as and when received, and a reply will be given within a month.
Application submission
The submission of applications is accomplished under the “Projects” tab by filling in a set of fields and submitting the file AAP-MSI-PEPS-Formulaire.docx, whose template is available at the bottom of this page. You can add other files if necessary. If you have any questions about the fields you need to complete, please consult the project submission documentation also available at the bottom of this page. It is strongly recommended to contact a member of the MSI staff at msi-peps@listes.univ-cotedazur.fr, who can advise you and facilitate the development of your collaborative projects.

Support to the Organization of Working Sessions (SUNSET)The SUNSET Call for Proposals is now closed
The focus of the SUNSET program is to support working sessions such as conferences related to modeling or simulation within UCA. These working sessions aim to emphasize the role of the MSI, namely sharing modeling and simulation skills with all UCA partners.
When it comes to interactions with companies, the AMIES SEME study week format is preferred: the SEME’s principle is to bring members of industry and academic researchers together to discuss exploratory topics. Industry representatives introduce some open problems, not always well defined, which then become the object of study by small groups of PhD students and post-docs, who are eventually helped by senior researchers, so as to propose some emerging solutions or possible fruitful paths. Since the problems are often multidisciplinary, it is important that the participants to these one week meetings come from different areas of specialization. As far as applications are concerned, calls for projects open at the beginning of a month and close at its end, allowing for ongoing submissions.

Funding level
The allocated budget is on the order of 10–15 k€. In particular, it provides support for inviting young researchers or PhD students.
Application processing and funding
Applications will be processed on an ongoing basis, and a reply will be given within a month. The funding granted will be directly charged to the MSI.
Application file
It is necessary to send a project description, which includes its short- and long-term goals and the intended use of the requested funds
Each partner involved needs to provide a manager’s written notice, specifying the partner’s involvement in and contribution to the project (co-funding, provided funds, etc.).
Final report
The MSI requires a list of all expenditures as well as a scientific report at the end of the project.
